Festival Hacks

15 Jul 2015 Chris James   Competitions

Festival season is officially upon us, and with Glastonbury, Download and a number of other early festivals setting a high standard, we can't wait to see what the rest of the forthcoming festivals have in store.

From family friendly festivals, foodie festivals, and Carfest, to Bestival and V Festival, there's a festival for everyone! With this in mind, we thought we'd put together some of our top tips for surviving the festival season and as we're feeling particularly generous, we're also allowing one lucky person to win an exclusive festival gift pack! The prize will include:

Here's an explanation of our tips:

Milk Thistle: Did you know that Milk Thistle is a long-term remedy for the less than pleasant side effects of drinking too much? It has properties that will settle the stomach, especially if you pick the effervescent tablets to have with water.

Bring Your Own Bottle Caps: Most bars and food stalls will remove the lid from your drinks, which is a bit of a pain when you want to make your overpriced bottle of water last longer than 5 minutes. Bring extra bottle caps with you from home and you're good to go. This also means you can fill up your water bottle for free throughout the day at the various water fountains!

Perfume On A Scarf: We're all familiar with the horror stories about festival toilets. Spray some fragrance onto a scarf or tissue to sniff whilst you're in the toilets. You'll thank us for this one.

Vaseline To Make Perfume Last: If you rub Vaseline on your pulse points before spraying your fragrance, the scent will last longer. The ointment is occlusive, meaning that it's able to hold the fragrance to your skin for longer. Let's face it, a long lasting fragrance is important when you're spending long days in a muddy field with the occasional trip to the dreaded portaloos.

Make Your Lipstick Last Longer: Your makeup needs to go the extra mile during a festival. You don't want to be touching up your lipstick every time you have a drink, so luckily for you, we have a great tip! Apply your lipstick as normal, then place a tissue over the lips and brush translucent powder lightly over the tissue in circular motions before remove the tissue. This will seal the colour into your lips and save you the hassle of annoying touch-ups.

Dry Shampoo: There's no denying that dry shampoo is a lifesaver in festivals. However, to get extra benefits from your trusty dry shampoo, apply it before bed, then again in the morning, to counteract any overnight oil buildup.

Thermal Water: The showers at festivals are few and far between, plus they're often cold and overpriced. Whilst wet wipes and antibacterial gel will get you so far, spraying your face with thermal spring water will make you feel refreshed and as though you've actually washed your face properly.

Vaseline As Make Up Remover: Festivals are all about multipurpose products, and Vaseline is a festival essential. If you haven't got room for makeup remover, and you'd prefer to reserve your wet wipes for your personal festival shower, then you can remove your makeup with a tissue and some Vaseline. It'll easily remove the residue of last night's eyeliner or that tough bronzer.

Make A Lamp With A Torch: Bring a head torch. It'll save you on those dark and disturbing trips into the portaloos, and it can also be strapped to a bottle of water to create a makeshift lamp with great light distribution, which creates a great ambience.

Avoid Loosing Your Voice: Between singing along to your favourite bands and shouting to be heard over the music, your throat will likely be a little sore at some point during the festival. Throat sweets will provide some relief for your dry throat. Our Vocalzone pastilles are great for this.

Pillbox For Lotions: If you really cant live without your lotions and potions, scoop your essential items into a 7-day pill box. Just remember to label it up so you know what's what!

Freezing Bottles Of Water: If you're taking a cooler box then rather than using ice packs, freeze bottles of water before going. This way, you'll have ice cold water to drink as well as chilled food. What do you do when the ice finally melts? Wrap a wet towel around your can/bottle and it should cool down significantly in 15-30 minutes.

Phone In A Cup: We all like to listen to a little music when we're getting ready. Rather than bringing a portable speaker with you, just pop your phone inside a cup and your music will play a lot louder.

Chalk To Keep Out Insects: The downside to camping at festivals is sharing your bed with insects. Ants hate the calcium carbonate naturally found in chalk, so they'll instinctively avoid it. Simply draw around your tent with chalk and you'll have an ant-free tent!

Bin Bags: When it comes to multi function products, it doesn't get much better than the good old bin liner. It can act as something dry to sit on, a makeshift poncho or you can even use it to make your own rain shoes! Or, you know, you could just use it to clear up your rubbish at the end of the weekend!
