The cult classic of fragrances

At Online Pharmacy UK, we have an extensive selection of great perfumes at great prices. But perhaps one of our bestsellers is the classic scent, Tweed. Although it's been on the market for over 40 years, it's still just as popular now as it was back then. With that in mind, we take a look at the perfume's unique history and explore what makes it such a bestseller.

When did it come onto the market?

Although there's no confirmed date of its official release, Tweed was one of the most popular perfumes throughout the 1940s and right up until the early 1960s. It was specifically targeted at young women with the view of being sophisticated yet conventional; as such it was seen as the perfect perfume for a young lady to wear.

What's the story?

Tweed came from a brand called Lenthéric, whose name is said to derive from the 19th century hairdresser, Guillaume Lenthéric, the owner of a fashionable salon in Paris in 1875. The salon was located at Rue St Honore; the exclusive address meant that the clientele were members of Parisian society. Guillaume soon turned his attention to the art of perfumery and created exclusive perfumes for his clients.

Lenthéric went onto become a big name in the world of perfume, and with extensive investments in advertising and various campaigns, Tweed proved to become their most loved fragrance. It became increasingly more popular in the swinging sixties and remains to be one of Lenthéric's last few products on the market today. The brand Lenthéric might have changed names and hands multiple times over the years, but the allure of Tweed remains. With warm notes and a light fragrance, Tweed is a universal fragrance that appeals to many different types of women.

Tell us more about the scent...

Tweed was Lenthéric's biggest seller and the scent which came to define them as a brand. The original scent was a mossy fougère with very distinctive lavender notes. It's a spicy and herbal fragrance with a warm woody base of sandalwood and patchouli; the benzoin shines through to leave a sweet scent that is quite subtle.
